Airman receives Bad Conduct Discharge Published May 6, 2008 By Staff Judge Advocate 60th Air Mobility Wing Legal Office TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- A Travis airman basic received confinement for two months and a Bad Conduct Discharge in court-martial proceedings here recently. The Airman, assigned to the 60th Services Squadron, was charged with wrongful use of the credit card of another Airman; larceny of less than $500 from USAA, a violation of Article 121 of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice. In addition, the Airman was charged with obtaining services by false pretenses for using another Airman's credit card to buy phone minutes and pay a phone bill, a violation of Article 134 of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice. The maximum punishment for these offenses is a Bad Conduct Discharge, 12 months confinement and reduction to E-1. The member stole a suitemate's credit card and used it to pay $300 toward a phone bill. The member also memorized another Airman's credit card number and used it to get a $200 cash advance and buy $25 worth of phone minutes. According to the 60th Air Mobility Wing Legal Office, this is a serious offense that degrades morale and trust amongst Airmen. This qualifies as a federal conviction that will follow the member for the rest of his/her life. The member will not receive many Veterans Affairs benefits and will have difficulty obtaining federal or state government employment in the future.
