From March 10 to April 21, Travis will host the annual Air Force Assistance Fund campaign.

The AFAF Committee will hold a Krispy Kreme drive to kick off the event. Orders for the drive will be taken from March 17 through 24 and the donuts will be delivered March 26.

The AFAF was established to provide an annual effort to raise funds for four charitable affiliates that provide support to the Air Force family (active duty, retirees, Reservists, Guard and their families, including surviving spouses) in need.

The four foundations are the The Air Force Aid Society, The General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, the Air Force Enlisted Village and the Air Force Villages Indigent Widows' Fund.

The Air Force Aid Society is the official charity of the Air Force. It is chartered to assist in relieving financial emergencies faced by active duty members and their families.

Approximately $11 million in direct emergency assistance is typically disbursed every year through this organization.

The General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation provides assistance to spouses of retired Air Force personnel of all ranks who have little or no financial resources. Your contributions to the LeMay Foundation enable the surviving spouse to continue living within their own home and community and not struggle to meet their living needs. The foundation helps with monthly supplemental grants to assist with food, rent, utilities, and for some, health care.

The Air Force Villages (the Indigent Widows' Fund and the Air Force Enlisted Village) provides widows of career retired Air Force personnel with dignified, appropriate, and cost-effective living options. Last year alone, this foundation provided more than $918,000 towards these retirement communities. Thanks to the Air Force Assistance Fund, no eligible widow has ever been turned away due to her inability to pay.

These organizations help Air Force people with emergency aid, with educational funds, or with a secure retirement home for widows or widowers of Air Force members needing financial assistance. Neither of these organizations receives taxpayer support. Because the AFAF campaign is Air Force people helping Air Force people directly, the AFAF relies on voluntary contributions.

To donate, contact squadron representatives to fill out a contribution form. All money collected will be donated to the AFAF. For any questions or more information, contact Capt. Greg Adams at 424-0691.
