The Unit Compliance Inspection, Safety Program Evaluation and Logistics Standardization Evaluation Program Evaluation for Travis are eight duty days away. More than 135 inspectors from Air Mobility Command will arrive March 3 and begin evaluating units March 4.

While the review of unit checklists will make up a majority of March's inspection another important aspect is the Emergency Management Exercise being conducted March 5. This exercise will evaluate the wing's ability to execute the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan in response to a terrorist's use of weapons of mass destruction.

To ensure the bases' readiness an Emergency Management Exercise will be held Feb. 21. This exercise will test disaster response force command and control as well as response capabilities. Key attributes the Team Travis members need for success are a sense of urgency, effective communication, acute situational awareness and solid teamwork.

All Travis members are expected to participate to the fullest extent possible and know what to do in case of a shelter-in-place activation. Due to the scope of this exercise, members can expect building evacuations, traffic revisions, force protection condition changes and other actions that will affect customer service sections and general customer service response. Col. G.I. Tuck, 60th Air Mobility Wing vice commander, is encouraging those with appointments and other non-essential engagements to consider rescheduling to avoid the probable inconvenience the exercise will cause.

To further clarify, dependents and civilian guests will be expected to follow all cordon requirements or traffic revisions, however they will not be expected to shelter-in-place or adhere to force protection condition changes. Air Force civilian employees are expected to comply with all exercise requirements.

"Every unit, every Airman which includes our civilian work force, and our dependants and retirees need to know that day-to-day operations will be significantly impacted during our exercise Feb. 21," said Col. Tuck. "To that end I ask that everyone bears with us as we go through this exercise and inspection. Team Travis' success hinges on a safe sense of urgency and our dedication to responding effectively."
