Travis Airman receives bad conduct discharge Published Jan. 8, 2008 By Staff Judge Advocate 60th Air Mobility Wing Legal Office TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- A Travis Airman was sentenced to reduction in grade to E-1, forfeiture of $400 for three months, restriction to Travis for two months, hard labor for two months, confinement for one month and a bad conduct discharge in court martial proceedings here recently. An airman 1st class assigned to the 60th Aerial Port Squadron was charged with wrongful use of cocaine on one occasion, a violation of article 112a of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice. The maximum punishment for this offense is 12 months confinement and a bad conduct discharge. After testing positive for cocaine during urinalysis, a jury of five officers convicted the member of wrongful use of cocaine and the member was sentenced. According to the 60th Air Mobility Wing Legal Office, this conviction qualifies as a federal conviction, which will follow the member for the rest of their life. As a result of a bad conduct discharge, the member will receive few Veterans Affairs benefits and ultimately have difficulty obtaining federal or state government employment in the future.
