Senior Airman Miguel Ambo, 60th Medical Support Squadron's Medical Logistics Flight medical material journeyman passed away Dec. 15 as a result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident, in Fairfield, Calif.

Airman Ambo was born June 1, 1980, in Dominica, West Indies and joined the Air Force Feb. 3, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Susan and their unborn daughter, his father Gerard Ambo, his mother, Luciene Ambo and mother-in-law, Reneth Baker.

"Airman Ambo was absolutely a team player in medical logistics, and a tremendous asset to this unit," said Lt. Col. Frederick Weaver, 60th MDSS commander. "He was willing to do whatever it took to get the job done, not only within his area, but also within the unit and throughout David Grant USAF Medical Center."

Colonel Weaver added that Airman Ambo was a warrior medic, deploying within the last year, earning Warrior of the Week and Warrior of the Month awards. His first-class customer service led to the Logistics Flight winning the 2006 Air Mobility Command's Medical Logistics Account of the Year for large accounts.

"He was a staunch learner and recently completed his Community College of the Air Force degree in logistics management. He enjoyed flying, his family and the work he did in the Air Force, relishing the camaraderie and teamwork," Colonel Weaver said. "He was a member of the 60th MDSS soccer team and in fact, it was his participation that enabled our team to win the base championship."

"He was well-respected and well-loved by his unit. I'm proud to have had him in my unit and I am proud to have had the opportunity to have been his commander," Colonel Weaver added.

"Miguel's contributions to the squadron and his contributions to his fellow Airmen will be sorely missed. He truly had a compassionate heart. No amount of words, no amount of outpour could ever describe the impact that Miguel had in the Medical Logistics Flight or the Medical Support Squadron."

A memorial fund is being established in Airman Ambo's name at the Travis Federal Credit Union. Currently, donations can be directed to Tech. Sgt Jeanne Tuttle at 423-7520, or Cheryl Taylor-Whalen at 423-7973.

A memorial service for Airman Ambo is scheduled for Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. in the David Grant USAF Medical Center auditorium.
