Sergeant charged with wrongful use of marijuana

A Travis staff sergeant was sentenced to a reduction to E-2, forfeiture of $500 pay for three months and three months hard labor without confinement in a courts-martial proceeding here recently.

The sergeant, assigned to the 60th Services Squadron, was charged with wrongful use of marijuana, a violation of Article 112a of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice.

The maximum punishment for these offenses is dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances and confinement for two years.

After the member was submitted to random drug testing, the member's test came back with a positive result for marijuana.

The findings of this trial send a vital message to the Travis community.

According to the 60th Air Mobility Wing Legal Office, drug use is not to be tolerated at Travis and appropriate punishment will quickly be handed to offenders.
