Travis' 60th Civil Engineer Squadron won best Civil Engineer Squadron in Air Mobility Command when the awards were announced Nov. 2.

Travis competed against all other bases in AMC to win the award for fiscal year 2007.

In order to win the award, the squadron was judged on several main factors, said John Schopf, 60th CES deputy base civil engineer. "These main factors were job performance, technical competency, initiative, resourcefulness and accomplishments," he added.

In addition to winning Best in AMC, the squadron also won the Gen. Gerald Stryzak Award for the Best Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight, as well as five individual first place awards including the Gen. Joseph Ahearn Award, for enlisted leadership won by Chief Master Sgt. Tyrone Matthews and the SAME Newman Medal, for the years most outstanding officer or civilian contribution to the military won by Lt. Col. Scott Hoover.

Other awards included the Eugene Lupia Award for outstanding civil engineer military manager won by Capt. David Dammeier and the award for outstanding civil engineer Air Reserve Component senior noncommissioned officer won by Master Sgt. Jerry Dunn.

The squadron and its members also took home several runner up awards as well.

According to Mr. Schopf, there were several factors that gave the CES the upper hand on the other competing squadrons.

"The one thing that probably sets us apart from other bases is our program development. Our team has the vision to develop a solid program and ability to execute that program."

"This program includes everything from the maintenance and upkeep of what we have, to the avocation for and construction of new facilities," said Mr. Schopf. "Travis is continually evolving into a better place to work and live."
