Col. Lee Payne, 60th Medical Group commander, served as one of four parade grand marshals, waving to the crowds gathering along North Texas Drive. "It was a real honor to represent all Airmen serving today and in the past," Colonel Payne said. "We operate in a predominately joint-service mode today, I felt like I was representing all branches of the services." Colonel Payne added it was a poignant day, as he thought about the recent passing of a member of Team Travis in Iraq. "I thought about his sacrifices and the sacrifices all our military members are making today in the fight for freedom," he said. The parade was kicked off with a flyover by members of the 21st Airlift Squadron in a C-17 Globemaster III. Major Peter Lueck, 21st AS chief of standards and evaluations, took part in the flyover and said it was an honor to start the parade. "It was a great opportunity to honor our veterans and those serving today," he said. "We wanted to show the community how much we appreciate their support." Senior leadership from the 60th Air Mobility Wing along with members from the base Honor Guard, the 615th Contingency Response Wing, 349th AMW and 15th Expeditionary Mobility Task Force traveled the parade route to the cheers of community members lining the streets. Each flight wore a different uniform consisting of service dress, battle dress uniform, long-sleeve blues and desert combat uniforms.
