Travis Airman charged with AWOL

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. --  A Travis airman first class was sentenced to a reduction to E-1, forfeiture of $867 pay for one month, and three months confinement in court-martial proceedings here in October. 

The Airman, assigned to the 60th Aerial Port Squadron was charged with absent without leave, a violation of Article 86 of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, and breaking base restriction, a violation of Article 134.

The maximum punishment for these offenses at a special court martial is confinement for seven months and forfeiture of two-thirds pay for seven months.

After failing to show up to the member's appointed place of duty, the member was eventually contacted and escorted back to Travis, counseled and restricted to base. After failing to report to work, the member was contacted in San Jose, Calif., and again escorted back to base.

The member spent 40 days in pre-trial confinement before a scheduled court date.

The findings of this trial send an important message to the Travis community.

According to the 60th Air Mobility Wing Legal Office, AWOL is taken very seriously and not tolerated at Travis. Being AWOL for six days can result in three months confinement.
