Team Travis held a remembrance ceremony Sept. 11, to mark the sixth anniversary of the tragic events that took place Sept. 11, 2001.

The ceremony honored those victims, whose lives were forever changed, as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Center, The Pentagon and the passengers onboard the aircraft that crashed in Pennsylvania.

"Join me to honor all those who have served in harms way, continue to serve and also for those who have paid the ultimate price," said master of ceremonies, Chief Master Sgt. Craig Sanders, 60th Communications Squadron.

"This is a day for Americans to further their resolve so we may prevail in the face of the enemy," said Col. Steve Arquiette, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander.

The events that occurred on Sept. 11 took the lives of more than 3,000 people, more than 1,000 of which are still missing or remain unidentified.

"Six years ago today, thousands of lives were changed forever," Colonel Arquiette said. "As the event touched all Americans, it made an indelible mark on the Air Force. Team Travis has played a vital role in the War on Terror and we will continue to do so."

Travis has flown more than 27,000 missions, transporting troops, cargo and fuel in support of the war.

We've provided not only cargo and other needed supplies, but also world-class medical care to the wounded since the war began, explained Colonel Arquiette.

"The day the towers came down, many felt feelings of anger and surprise as we witnessed the worst attack on U.S. soil. This was not just a day of tragedy, but a day of decision," Colonel Arquiette said.

"We must press forward and be prepared by not only being the best Airmen, but the best citizens we can possibly be."
