Travis inducts new honorary commanders Published Aug. 29, 2007 By Tailwind Staff 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Travis hosted an honorary commanders' assumption-of-command ceremony Aug. 24 at the Delta Breeze Club. Units from the 349th Air Mobility Wing, the 615th Contingency Response Wing and the 60th Air Mobility Wing, along with squadron commanders from the 615th CRW and 60th AMW, bonded their organizations with the local community by passing their flags to some very important and appreciated members of the community in a symbolic change of honorary command. "Team Travis is very lucky to have supporters such as members of the Honorary Commanders' program and Travis Regional Armed Forces Committee," said Col. Steve Arquiette, 60th AMW commander. "While some of you have been long-time supporters of Travis, for others this may be your first visit. You have been invited into this program so that you can learn about us while we learn from you." During the ceremony, both the military and their civilian counterparts learned more about Travis Air Force Base and each of the respective units with whom they will be partnered "In many ways, Travis is a small community in itself. We have Air Force doctors, pilots, civil engineers, communicators, lawyers, security personnel, spiritual leaders and so on just like those professionals in the civilian sector," Colonel Arquiette said. Colonel Arquiette closed the ceremony by challenging each wing, group and squadron commander and their honorary commanders to continue their interaction and learn from one another. "I challenge for both the commanders and their honorary commanders not to leave tonight's events as the only interaction during your time together," he said. "This program only works with a commitment, from both parties, to interact as much as possible."
