Red Cross to begin Dental Assistant Training program Published May 2, 2007 By Joan Kelley-Williams American Red Cross DGMC Station Manager TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The American Red Cross is once again offering its Dental Assistant Training program. The program is a career development opportunity held at the David Grant USAF Medical Center's Arthur J. Sachsel Dental Clinic. "This training has been a great experience for me because in a short period of time, I have learned the basic skills that will help in the future," said Irene Ching. "I enjoy working at the Dental Clinic because the staff has been very helpful, and also because I enjoy taking care of my patients. It's a great opportunity!" "I finally found the job that makes me smile when I come to work," added Shannon Dememt. Launched in June 2006 at the Dental Clinic, the program offers 800 hours of classroom and clinical experience. Classes will be from 6:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Participants must also complete a CPR/First Aid course and have current immunizations. Reimbursement for childcare or transportation is not available. Due to the chemicals and X-rays students may be exposed to through the course, women who are pregnant may not be considered for this program. Each class is small to ensure quality training. To be eligible for this professional training program, individuals must be 18 years or older and a military-sponsored identification card holder. Applications are available at the DGMC's Red Cross office and must be completed and returned May 7 by 5 p.m. For questions or concerns regarding the Dental Assistant Training Program, contact the Red Cross office at 423-3648.
