In just a few weeks Air Mobility Command personnel selected to become Air Force Smart Operations for the 21 Century Level 1 Facilitators will arrive at Travis for training. The purpose of the training is to equip them with the basic facilitator skills needed to guide a Lean/Rapid Improvement Team through its improvement initiative.

The week-long training event will be conducted at the newly relocated 60th Air Mobility Wing AFSO-21 Office in Building 549.

Level 1 Certification is granted after the facilitator completes this training and three rapid-improvement events at their home station or at other bases. Facilitating a team is not an easy task and it requires learning some basic skills to be followed by additional training received from their home station Continuous Process Improvement supervisor.

The basic concept of AFSO-21 is to increase the Air Force's combat capability by systematically eliminating waste, reducing variation and by limiting inflexibility in our processes.

The Air Force's core value of "Excellence" Core is a key part of the foundation of AFSO-21, where settling for the status quo process is unacceptable when there is a better way. Airmen know and understand what is required of them to accomplish their daily work processes. Level 1 Facilitators helps them to develop better work processes.

AFSO-21 is a mindset of continuous improvement; Airmen always thinking about how they can improve what they do and then making it happen. That's what makes Team Travis America's First Choice.
