The Travis Fitness Center won best Fitness Center in the Air Force for 2006.

"It's a great facility," said Mr. J.D. Floyd, who goes to the Fitness Center five to six times a week. "The hours are great. I can come in [during] the morning noon or night and the people are very hospitable "If you tell them about a problem, they try to take care of it."

The Travis Fitness Center has won at the Air Mobility Command level for three years in a row. This is the first time an AMC fitness center has won at the Air Force level.

"I think it's long overdue," said Tanya McCormick, Fitness Center director. "We've been known to be trendsetters."

Their place as a trendsetter, particularly the ability to offer innovative programs with little funding behind them, is the reason the Travis Fitness Center took the top prize this year, according to Mrs. McCormick.

"We expand to meet our customer's demands and we do it all for free," she said. "We're most proud of our ability to operate without any funding and still develop new programs."
In order to continually expand, the Fitness Center certifies unit physical training leaders at a cost to the units, which allows Travis to have more squadron physical training leaders and offer more classes.

"We're really proud of all of our staff," Mrs. McCormick said. "This is our most skilled staff. They have the most certifications and are the most creative."

The Fitness Center also recently put together the child/parent work out room and set up a wing fit camp program.

"This is probably the best gym I've seen -- as far as equipment goes," said Senior Airman Chris Raney, 660th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, who works out at the Fitness Center four to five days a week.

The Fitness Center also continues to support intramural sports programs on base.
"We have a lot of outstanding people," Mrs. McCormick said. "We're really good at identifying [people's] needs."

The Fitness Center's hours of operation are: Monday through Friday 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and on weekends from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
