Travis Bike Club to kick off 2007 cycling season Published March 16, 2007 By Capt. Barton Boma 6th Air Refueling Squadron TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Now that most of the country has "sprung forward" and daylight savings time has arrived, what better way to take advantage of the extra daylight than to come and ride with the Travis Bike Club. To help kick off the 2007 cycling season, the club is hosting a mountain bike ride and barbeque March 17 at 1 p.m., at 600 Buckeye Street in Vacaville. This year, the club will be hosting two weekly rides in two different cities, something no other local club is able to offer. The first of the two weekly rides departs Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. This is a 25-mile ride that rolls along the Gordon Valley and Suisun Valley roads in Fairfield. The second ride of the week departs Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. This is a 30-mile ride that ventures into the roads around Browns Valley in Vacaville. Beginning May 1, the rides will not begin until 6 p.m. In addition to weekly rides, the bike club will host numerous weekend rides and community service activities, including a bicycle rodeo where local children can get their bikes tuned up for free, run a confidence course and have their helmets inspected. The club even hands out helmets to children who need one. The Travis Bike Club offers some great opportunities and benefits many people can't find anywhere else including: -- discounts at local bike shops and club clothing -- free seminars including nutrition, riding techniques and bicycle maintenance -- discounts on bicycle events including centuries, triathlons and races -- free bike case rental -- countless volunteer opportunities For more information about the Travis Bike Club, visit www.clantoolz.com/hawks or email travishawks@gmail.com.
