The 60th Air Mobility Wing commander hosted a Town Hall Meeting March 1 to present the installation plan "Building a Better Community."

Travis residents learned more about Travis' housing privatization future, base housing safety and security and also had the opportunity to ask questions to the leadership.

Col. Steve Arquiette, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander and Col. Stephen Shea, 60th Mission Support Group commander, talked for about an hour then opened the floor up to attendees.

Anyone not able to attend the meeting or would like to see the information that was presented can watch it on "Video Furnace" by going to http://132.33.128.91/index.shtml?launch=1 and clicking "tune in" and then "watch TV" or by reviewing the slides at https://w3.travis.af.mil/basebriefings/town%20hall%20slides.ppt

The following are a few of questions that were asked during the meeting by Team Travis' housing residents. For a complete list of questions and answers go to the Travis Intranet and click on Base Briefings:

Q. Should residents have any health concerns as the demolition of homes begin?
A. Any health threats such as Asbestos will be removed before demolition begins. The demolition might raise the dust level in the air. For safety concerns, we recommend for residents stay away from homes that are being demolished as much as possible.

Q. There is no street parking allowed for Broadway residents and cars are always speeding. What are your plans to helps us out?
A. True, there is no street parking allowed for Broadway residents. Broadway residents that own more than one vehicle must use the residence's one car garage or one car driveway for a single car, and park their second car on the lot across the street. The base will negotiate with the privatization project owner to widen Broadway.
We have also noticed a rise on the number of residents speeding on base housing and urge all base residents to obey posted speed limits. Our Security Forces will increase base housing patrols. Residents are also encouraged to promptly report speeders and all suspicious activity to law enforcement at 424-2800.

Q. What will happen with the Georgetown homes when privatization begins?
A. Georgetown will not be affected by privatization because they are leased homes that are currently not owned by the government. The lease does not expire on those homes until 2011.

Q. I believe I have mold growing in my home, what should I do?
A. At the first sign of mold, call Housing Maintenance at 437-1230. They will test, clean and treat any signs of mold in your home. While most types of mold are not dangerous, there is still a concern and we will address each instance individually.
