The David Grant USAF Medical Center is currently undergoing a major $7.9 million structural interior design renovation.

This is the first update to the original 20-year-old interior design since DGMC opened in 1988. It is also part of the Air Force Surgeon General's effort to upgrade interior finishes and furnishings of all inpatient facilities throughout the continental U.S.

The first phase of new construction started in January and is scheduled to be completed in October.

DGMC's dining room and the North and South entrance reception areas are being remodeled as part of the first phase, which is funded at $3.1 million.

Additionally, the first floor pharmacy, clinic waiting areas and customer service counters will also receive new lighting fixtures, carpeting, paint scheme and furniture.

Phase Two of the renovation, totaling $4.8 million, will focus on redesigns of the second through fourth floor areas. Included in the redesign is new furniture in the clinic waiting areas and artwork in various places such as public corridors, elevator alcoves and nursing units.

"The structural interior design project will move the DGMC into the 21st century with an interior design comparable to industry standards," explained Capt. Cory Aldean, 60th Medical Group director of facility management.

Although some of the work will be done after normal duty hours, Captain Aldean reminds Team Travis members visiting DGMC to be patient during daytime construction efforts to improve the medical facility.
