A senior airman assigned to the 60th Maintenance Operations Squadron was charged with dereliction of duty, a violation of Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The Airman was also charged with extortion, a violation of Article 127, and service discrediting conduct, a violation of Article 134. The maximum punishment for these offenses at a special court martial is confinement for 12 months, forfeiture of two-thirds pay for 12 months, reduction in rank to E-1 and a bad conduct discharge. After finding a computer memory card containing sexually explicit images of the victims, the member emailed the images to other active duty members. The member then posted them on the internet, claiming to be the person in the images. Later, the member tried to extort more images from the victims using a fake email alias. The findings of this trial send a strong message to the Travis community. "Extortion and trying to humiliate a fellow Airman are serious crimes," said Capt. Nicholas Mathieu, 60th Air Mobility Wing Judge Advocate trial counsel. "Air Force Office of Special Investigations did an outstanding job analyzing the digital media and tracing the emails. Based on their hard work, the guilty member received a bad conduct discharge and six months confinement. Hopefully, this will act as a strong deterrent."
