Four minutes.

Two-hundred and forty seconds.

That's all it takes for permanent brain damage to occur when a person's heartbeat stops or they stop breathing as result of a heart attack, drowning, choking or electrical shock.

It could happen to anyone, at any time. It could happen to you. Are you prepared to act?

The 60th Services Squadron's Family Members Flight, in conjunction with the Travis Red Cross Station at David Grant USAF Medical Center, will host a free one-day mass training event at the Airman and Family Readiness Center Feb 10.

This training will teach participants adult CPR, choke-saving and rescue breathing techniques. In addition, participants will learn five important action steps including creating an emergency plan, assembling disaster supplies kits and helping keep families safe during emergencies.

Individuals who complete the training will receive a certificate and, most importantly, learn valuable life-saving techniques.

There is no minimum age required. However, students must be able to understand the material and perform the techniques.

There will be two, half-day sessions from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Plan to arrive thirty minutes prior to the start of the session.
