Anti-virus software available for home use Published Jan. 11, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Candy Knight 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- In today's electronic environment, many Team Travis members have thrown the old adage of "never bringing work home" out the window. As more and more servicemembers begin using their home computers to conduct business, it is becoming more crucial that they provide the same amount of protection for their home PC as they do their government computer. "Many people use their home computers to check email, write an EPR or conduct a multitude of government business," said Maj. Reggie Ash, 60th Communications Squadron commander. "What they may not know is that For Official Use Only and Privacy Act information remain on the hard drive even after the files are deleted. These files are susceptible to the bad actors on the internet." In order to assist active-duty servicemembers to safeguard their home computers from infection, free Antivirus/Firewall and Anti-Spyware software is now available for download. According to Major Ash, any virus introduced to a home PC can easily be transferred to a government PC that is without up-to-date antivirus software. "Although the 60th CS ensures your government PC is protected from viruses and hackers, members need to take the extra security measure to ensure that their home PC is also protected," Major Ash said. The Antivirus/Firewall software can be downloaded from https://www.jtfgno.mil/antivirus/home_use.htm The software is available under the "What software should I download?" section The Anti-Spyware software can be downloaded from https://powhatan.iiie.disa.mil/tools/sdep/software/ Members must have access to an Air Force computer in order to download the software to a CD or a USB drive for home use. There is no time restriction for downloading the software and the license is valid as long as the member owns the computer and works for the DoD. Members wanting additional information or who have encounter problems downloading the software should contact their units' Client Service Administrator or the 60th Communications Squadron's Focal Point at 424-2666.
