60th LRS competes for Daedalian honor Published Nov. 21, 2006 By Jennifer Brugman 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 60th Logistics Readiness Squadron has been selected as one of three finalists for the 2006 Headquarters Air Mobility Command Major General Warren R. Carter Logistics Effectiveness Daedalian Award for a second year in a row. The Daedalian award is given to the best Logistics Readiness Squadron based on mission accomplishment, innovative management and quality of life programs. The 60th LRS won the AMC Daedalian trophy last year, and was the Air Force Daedalian overall winner in 1999. "The secret of success for the squadron is teamwork -- everybody works together to achieve mission success, whether it be our active duty, civilians or Reservist," said Capt. Casey Dierickx, 60th LRS materiel management flight commander. "We provide our personnel with the tools and training necessary for excellence, and we never sacrifice safety in the work environment. Our most valuable resource is our people." During the 2006 AMC Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Program inspection, 60th LRS received an "outstanding" rating. They were the only squadron to receive this rating in the wing. At the conclusion of this evaluation, 25 people from the 60th LRS received the AMC/A4 coin for their contributions and overall job specialty knowledge. During the recent Environmental Occupational Health Compliance and Management Program inspection, the entire 60th LRS Fuels Management Flight was recognized as Outstanding Performers for their process improvements and environmental management control practices. "The level of success we've achieved and the accolades this squadron has earned are a direct reflection of the quality of the men and women assigned, both military and civilian alike," said Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Mangum, 60th LRS Chief Enlisted manager. The 60th LRS has brought home two Air Force -level awards, one AMC-level, six Wing-level, and six group-level function, annual and quarterly awards. "Every flight has many success stories," Captain Dierickx said. One such success story is the C-17 bed down. In just three weeks, a combined team consisting of 60th and 349th LRS members moved more than 390,000 C-5 spare parts valued at over $33 million into one combined C-17/C-5 parts warehouse. This task was completed five weeks ahead of schedule. The Daedalian team arrives Wednesday to evaluate the people and programs of the 60th LRS. If selected as the best logistics readiness squadron in AMC, the 60th LRS will represent AMC at the Air Force level competition.
