Security forces streamlines minor accident reporting procedures

Security forces have many responsibilities at Travis, the least of which is responding to emergency calls for assistance.

As the Global War on Terrorism continues and we maintain our high operations tempo, we must continue to find ways to streamline our processes and conduct business using more efficient methods.

One way to do this is to stop dispatching patrols to minor accidents.

This change allows people to report the accident at their convenience, reduces the burden on the patrols, and brings the squadron in line with Air Force Instruction 31-101, paragraph 10.4.16., which states that installation patrols cannot be dispatched to every call from the public, as this weakens the overall force protection posture of the installation security program.

It recommends that alternative call-handling procedures be implemented for minor incidents such as traffic accidents where there are no injuries and the damage is less than $10,000.

From now on, people involved in a minor accident should go to the Security Forces Control Center located in Bldg. 380A within 72 hours to report the accident.

Once they arrive they must produce proof of registration and insurance and complete a vehicle accident worksheet.

Security forces members will verify the damage to the vehicle(s), facilitate an exchange of information and complete a detailed blotter entry describing the accident.

The blotter entry meets the intent of a police report documenting the accident and may be used by an insurance company to assist in settling a claim.

Copies of the blotter entry will be forwarded to the security forces reports and analysis section 72 hours after the accident has been reported for processing.

To further obtain information regarding a request for a copy of a blotter entry documenting a reported minor accident, visit the reports and analysis section, located in Bldg. 381 on the first floor adjacent to the military personnel flight records section, or call 424-3230.
