The C-17s are coming! Published May 30, 2006 By Staff Sgt. Raymond Hoy 60th AMW Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The C-17s are coming, and the 60th Air Mobility Wing leadership wants to keep Team Travis informed about the upcoming changes. One such way is the “C-17s Are Coming” event scheduled to begin 9 a.m. June 2 at the red carpet area on the flightline side of base operations. “This is an opportunity to educate the base and local community on the capabilities of the C-17,” said Lt. Col. Paul Dorcey, C-17 program office deputy chief. The base will welcome distinguished visitors from the local community including Mr. Harry Price, mayor of Fairfield, and Mr. Len Augustine, mayor of Vacaville. Solano County supervisors Michael Reagan and John Vasquez will also be in attendance. “It is important to keep our community informed on the changes occurring at the base,” Colonel Dorcey said. “This event is an excellent preview of things to come.” The event will offer a C-17 static display, belonging to March Air Reserve Base, that will be open to all attendees for walk-through tours from 9 to 10:30 a.m. “The aircraft coming from March is the newest airlifter in the Air Force inventory, which is what members can expect to see once Travis receives its C-17s,” explained Colonel Dorcey. “By adding the tactical airlift mission, C-17s will provide an increased capability no other base can match.” As part of the event, there will be a short aerial demonstration showcasing some of the aircraft’s capabilities beginning at 11 a.m. Immediately following the aerial demonstration, the C-17 will return to the display area and be opened up for continued touring until 1 p.m. Boeing will have a promotional trailer set up to give attendees an opportunity to get information regarding the C-17s. Boeing representatives will be on hand to answer questions as well. “This should be a great event,” said Colonel Dorcey. “We encourage all members to come out.” The 349th AMW Top Three and Booster Club will be holding a fund-raiser burger burn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be open to all military, their families, retirees and sponsored guests. Parking will be limited, so plan accordingly.
