AMC/A4 to inspect Travis Published April 7, 2006 By Capt. Jeremy Harmon 60th Maintenance Group Quality Assurance TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Headquarters Air Mobility Command Logistics Directorate will visit Travis to begin an intensive eight-day inspection called the Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Program May 1. The Travis Team will host 45 inspectors who will focus on the intensive logistics operations the men and women of Travis conduct on a daily basis. The AMC/A4 team will evaluate maintenance, supply, transportation and aerial port operations for all three wings: the 60th Air Mobility Wing, the 349th AMW and the 615th Contingency Response Wing. The LSEP is an inspection that will assess each wing’s ability to conduct logistics functions safely per the applicable technical order, Air Force Instruction, major command directive or local operating instruction. Proper maintenance, supply and transportation are important because failure to comply with approved guidance can result in adverse mission impact, damage to equipment or injury. The 60th and 349th Maintenance Groups have taken the lead to prepare for the LSEP team visit; however, it will take a Travis Team effort to make this a success. Logisticians from 615th CRW, 60th Aerial Port Squadron and 60th Logistics Readiness Squadron are busy preparing for this important visit. At the end of February, the squadrons began a series of five mini LSEP inspections as “dry-runs” in preparation for the big event. Each active duty and Reserve squadron provided augmentees to act as inspectors during these practices. Aside from the obvious benefit of ensuring that the TO or proper safety procedures are always followed, the members of the 60th and 349th Maintenance Groups have learned to be comfortable around inspectors and complete their tasks with someone looking over their shoulder. Since the end of February, the maintenance groups has held two more mini LSEPs and two more are scheduled for next week and the week of April 17. The LSEP team will consist of 14 individuals from HQ/AMC the other 30 individuals will be volunteer experts from other AMC bases. In this way AMC can maintain a large base of inspectors and spread the burden evenly throughout the command.
