The 15th Air Mobility Operations Squadron opened its doors to family and friends for the squadron’s first open house Feb. 1.

Lt. Col. William DeMarco, 15th AMOS commander, wanted the family members to have a better understanding of what their loved ones do on the job, whether on the road or at home.

Because of its unique mission, 15th AMOS members frequently deploy to an air mobility division in support of contingency and humanitarian relief operations.

As a result, family members are often left home with little idea of what the 15th AMOS and AMD mission is and how their loved ones are supporting this mission.

Staff Sgt. Jason Jordan, who organized the event, said he felt the open house would answer some of those questions.

The idea was to explain the deployed mission and how squadron members fit into that mission.

The evening started out with Colonel DeMarco’s welcome to about 35 folks where he explained the importance command and control is having in today’s Air Force operations and how squadron members are contributing to operations around the world.

This was followed by a video presentation, providing a visual overview of deployments and exercises the 15th AMOS participated in during the past year. These exercises included Terminal Fury, Ulchi Focus Lens and Reception, Staging, Onward Movement and Integration.

Representatives from each flight then gave quick briefings on the deployed and in-garrison missions of their specific flights and how they fit into the overall mission of the 15th AMOS.

After the presentations, family members had the opportunity to tour the various duty sections.

To cap off the evening dinner was provided, and everyone sat together so that the family members could have a chance to get to know each other better.

“The presentations were great; I really learned a lot about what my husband does and how the 15th AMOS works,” said Mrs. Kerry Smith, wife of Capt. Dave Smith.
