18th AF selects command chief Published Feb. 17, 2006 TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Maj. Gen. James Hawkins, 18th Air Force commander, announced Thursday that Chief Master Sergeant Brye McMillon, 60th Air Mobility Wing command chief, has been selected over four possible candidates to be the next 18th Air Force command chief. “I received a phone call from General Hawkins asking if Marie and I would like to come work for him at Scott,” said Chief McMillon. “I said yes.” “He’s more than the right man for the 18th Air Force challenge – he’s the perfect chief,” said Col. Timothy Zadalis, 60th AMW acting commander. “Col. Sherlock and I both extend our heartfelt congratulations to Chief McMillon and his wife Marie,” he continued. The men and women of the 18th Air Force are about to experience what we at Travis already know!” This selection brings about mixed feelings for the chief. “I am excited and happy for the opportunity, but I’m not happy to leave here,” he said. “There was just such a positive connection for us here at Travis.” Chief McMillon entered the Air Force in April 1981 and completed basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. His background includes various duties in security forces, manpower and resources. Before his current position he served as the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 89th Airlift Wing, Andrews AFB, Md. His assignments include bases in Oklahoma, North Dakota, New York, Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland and California. The chief also served overseas in England and Korea and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the command chief master sergeant for the 416th Air Expeditionary Group in Uzbekistan. His report no later than date is March 15.
