Travis Economic Impact Analysis Release Published June 14, 2012 By 140612 TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The economic impact analysis of Travis Air Force Base totals $1.4 billion for fiscal year 2011, an accounting period measured from Oct. 1, 2010 to Sept. 30, 2011. Travis is the largest employer in Solano County with a workforce of 13,368 personnel. For fiscal year 2011, Travis employed 6,758 Air Force active duty and 3,183 reserve members, 3,263 civilians, 157 Sailors and Marines, seven Army soldiers as well as two British Royal Air Force exchange pilots and one Danish Air Force exchange pilot. "We are proud to serve the Air Force and our local partners as the largest single contributor to Solano County economic activity," said Col Dwight C. Sones, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander. "We deeply appreciate the community's longstanding support of our Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines and their families stationed at Travis. The integration of the base and the community resulted in approximately 5,142 indirect jobs created. Indirect impact is the economic impact derived from the presence of Travis AFB employees in the local community. For each job that is filled at Travis, more jobs are needed in the local community to support the influx of personnel. The estimated annual dollar value of the indirect jobs created is $238,483,641. Travis often awards contracts to local Solano County businesses for the construction, operations, and maintenance of various base infrastructure projects. The total amount of dollars spent on base construction projects came to more than $69.8 million. The fiscal year 2011 economic impact analysis also addresses the the impact of more than 49,159 military retirees and their families who live within a 50-mile radius of the base. Of those retirees, more than 8,500 live within Solano County and earn an approximate total of $219,566,928 in annual retirement annuities.
