Travis, US Army North support voluntary assisted return of dependents from Japan Published March 22, 2011 By 020311 TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- MEDIA ADVISORY RELEASE NO. 2011-002 March 21, 2011 Contact: (707) 424-2011 Travis, US Army North support voluntary assisted return of dependents from Japan TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. - More than 500 family members, who voluntarily departed Japan, will tentatively arrive at 5:45 a.m. and 9 a.m. Tuesday at Travis AFB aboard chartered military flights. The arriving families and pets will be met by military representatives from Travis AFB, who will assist them with lodging, transportation, follow-on travel arrangements and any other needs. On March 17, the Office of the Secretary of Defense approved voluntary assisted departures to the United States for family members residing in Japan. These flights will continue for the foreseeable future to accommodate the needs of our service member's families. These are prudent measures taken to assist and expedite recovery efforts in Japan by reducing the demand for food, water, fuel and electricity during this national emergency while hundreds of thousands of Japanese citizens remain displaced. The airlift to Travis AFB is the second U.S. arrival location for these flights after Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which has received flights since Saturday. Media are invited to cover the arrival and interview returning family members as they arrive at Travis AFB as directed by the Public Affairs representatives. Interested media are requested to RSVP to the numbers below and be at the Travis AFB main gate at 5:15 a.m. for the first aircraft's arrival and a tentative 8 a.m. for the second aircraft's arrival.
