Leadership press conference officially kicks off Air Force Week Sacramento Published April 6, 2009 By 010409 TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Honorable Kevin Johnson, Mayor of Sacramento, along with Gen. Arthur J. Lichte, commander Air Mobility Command, Scott AFB, Ill., and the Honorable Susan Peters, Chair of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, will hold a joint-press conference officially kicking-off Air Force Week Sacramento at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 8 at Sacramento City Hall. Air Force Week Sacramento will run from Sept. 5 through 13 at various locations throughout Sacramento, Calif. Air Force Week is an opportunity to meet the dedicated men and women in your United States Air Force, and hear their compelling stories of service in support of the Joint Global War on Terror - both in the United States and overseas. Air Force Week activities are set to begin Sept. 6 with a performance by Tops In Blue, the Air Force's premier entertainment showcase, at the State Fair. A proclamation signing at the California Capitol by select Air Force officials and distinguished guests will officially open the week Sept. 8. Additionally, there will be speaking engagements with Air Force senior leaders to include the Secretary of the Air Force, the Honorable Michael B. Donley, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Gen. Norton A. Schwartz and General Lichte. The proclamation signing will be followed by a flyover of Air Force aircraft and the day will conclude with an evening performance by Tops In Blue at the Mondavi Center on the University of California, Davis campus. Other planned events throughout the week include air-to-air refueling missions with a C-17 Globemaster III and KC-10 Extender, and performances by a well known country music singer and the Air Force Band of the Golden West. Additional events under development include a women's leadership forum, briefings from astronauts and finally a leadership panel with senior Air Force leadership and local political and industry leaders. The week will culminate with an air show at Mather Airport Sept. 12 and 13 with numerous aerial acts to include the Air Force Thunderbirds, the Air Force's premier aerial demonstration team, performing both days.
