The base is hosting their annual Kids Understanding Deployment Operations Oct. 3. The event will run from noon to 4:30 p.m.

Better known as KUDOS, the 60th Services Squadron-sponsored event is designed to give family members a realistic observational understanding of what servicemembers go through before, during and after deployments.

The event will be divided into the following three sections with groups rotating on the half hour:

In-processing: Family members receive readiness kits and briefings from intelligence, chaplain and medical.

Base X:
Meet the Base X commander and have hands-on demonstrations of what military members experience when they deploy. Base X will also feature a C-5 static display, Explosive Ordnances Disposal robot, a fire truck, a Hummer, medical tent, mobile kitchen unit and a mobile base exchange.

Welcome home:
Family members greeted with music and kudos for a job well done.

In addition, for the first-time, teachers will experience their own mock deployment through the Teachers Understanding Deployment Operations event, which is designed to raise awareness and help teachers understand the deployment cycle.

"For the teachers of these students, we hope they gain some insight into the entire deployment experience and can better assist our military children at school when a parent or loved one deploys," added Lt. Col. Oscar Vaughn, 60th Services Squadron commander.

"The entire event will give Team Travis youth and their teachers a better understanding of what their military parent(s) and other Airmen go through when they deploy in support of the Global War on Terrorism and the many other operations Travis supports," said Shenethia Carter, 60th Services Squadron.
