Travis squadron flies its last local C-5 mission Published April 4, 2006 By 060304 TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 60th Air Mobility Wing invites local media representatives to attend a two-part event as the 21st Airlift Squadron continues its transition from a C-5 Galaxy squadron to a C-17 Globemaster III squadron. The 21st AS will fly its last local C-5 Galaxy mission Friday. The aircraft is scheduled to land at noon and ceremoniously taxi through a waterway arch, provided by the 60th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighters. This is a great photographic opportunity honoring a milestone in Travis’ history. Monday, as the 21st AS marks its 64th anniversary, a ceremony is scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m. to officially commemorate the transition of the squadron’s mission from the C-5 to the C-17 mission. Travis is scheduled to receive its first C-17 at the end of July.
