Memorials to remember Published May 27, 2009 By John M. Lacomia 60th Air Mobility Wing History Office TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- It has only been a few days since our country finished celebrating Memorial Day. It is on this day we honor our fallen heroes past, present and future. On the corner of Burgan Avenue and Travis Boulevard here on base, is Colonel Coe's Corner. It is directly opposite from the Golden Bear and the Airmen's Wall and is a silent memory of one of Travis' former base commander's Colonel Grover K. Coe. From Nov. 1, 1967 until Feb. 12, 1968, Colonel Coe managed the Military Airlift Command's largest base during the height of the Vietnam War. He is one of the many that are remembered at Travis Air Force Base. It is incumbent upon us, as members of Travis to identify the memorials and monuments that have been carefully placed throughout our installation. At the present time, I am trying to locate and document each and every memorial on base, but I need the help of Team Travis. As I am looking for these pieces of history, I ask if you see a memorial in an unassuming spot, you contact me via email at john.lacomia@travis.af.mil.
