The aircraft was used extensively by the Allies in World War II to transport personnel and supplies. The C-47 also served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. It was assigned at Travis from 1943 – 1953. Only 35 C-133A models were built and they flew out of Travis and Dover AFB, Del. The aircraft was assigned to Travis from 1958 – 1971 and was often used to transport the Atlas, Titan and Minuteman ballistic missiles . It flew attack missions during World War II and the Korean War, often focusing on supply routes. It was assigned at Travis from 1943 – 1945. The Heritage Center at Travis Air Force Base, California, features numerous exhibits showcasing the base's history, including more than a dozen aircraft.

Visitors can tour the center and see a variety of aircraft up close including the B-29 Superfortress, F-102 Delta Dagger, C-47 Skytrain and B-52 Stratofortress.

Travis is celebrating its 75th Anniversary throughout 2018 and much of the base's history is captured at the Heritage Center.
