With permanent-change-of-station season going into full gear, there is one shop at Travis to assist Airmen in their move.

The Airmen's Attic is a shop where enlisted members, staff sergeant and below, their dependents and Reservists can shop for free. The Airmen's Attic helps Airmen get the items they need to make their house into a home. Travis personnel can obtain televisions, DVD players, furniture and home goods.

"I like to come out every other week to every three weeks to see what new stuff they have," said Allison Laas, wife of Airman 1st Class Charles Laas, 60th Aerial Port Squadron. "It's nice to switch out stuff when you're done with it, especially when you have little ones."

The shop runs purely on donations.

"We get items the (Exchange) can no longer use," said Carolyn Norman, store manager. "The enlisted spouses club and Top 3 donate money so we can get trash bags, light bulbs and toiletries to run the store."

The Airmen's Attic is always looking for volunteers and monetary donations to keep the store running, especially during the busy PCS season.

"We've seen a rise in people shopping here during the PCS season," Norman said. "Last month we had 443 people visit our store and we typically see 30 to 50 people here a day. So we're definitely in need of volunteers. Any active duty member can volunteer."

The Airmen's Attic runs strictly on volunteers so anyone interested in volunteering can stop by the store for more details. They even have a play pen for parents with children so they can bring their child with them.

Anyone looking to donate some unwanted baggage before moving may do so during business hours or outside the doors at any time. Anything is accepted from adult and children's clothing, furniture, kitchen appliances, electronics and toys.

Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday nights for staff sergeants and below. It is also open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first and third Saturday of each month for all ranks For more information call 424-8740.
