Contests support energy causes Published May 16, 2012 By 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Thousands of pounds of recycling were saved and hundreds of kilowatt hours of energy were generated during events held at Travis last month. A team of 60th Maintenance Squadron members recently won the Airman Power Tournament, a contest to covert human energy into electrical wattage on elliptical machines at the base gym in the Airman Power Tournament. In the Airman Power Tournament, eight three-person teams competed to produce the most kilowatt hours. The squads combined for a total of 209 KW between them. The 60th MXS members team, named "Kill-O-Watt," composed of Senior Airman Nathan Lewis, Airman 1st Class Kyle Ingram and Airman 1st Class Scott Krause, generated 36.6 kilowatt hours. In the base recycling contest, a group of 60th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron members turned in the height dollar amount of recyclables while a 60th MXS group gathered more pounds. In the base recycling contest, which took place throughout the month of April, the Dumpster Divers collected $514.48 worth of recylables. Krause captained Electromotive Force, the 60th MXS team which picked up 1,002.2 pounds of aluminum cans, plastic containers and glass to earn the top weight prize. A total of 4,609.4 pounds of recyclables were diverted from the landfill in the contest. More than $2,460 was earned for booster clubs. 60th Civil Engineer Squadron's asset management flight hosted both events.
