Caring for Airmen: Operation Cookie Drop Published Nov. 22, 2011 By Airman Madelyn Ottem 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Service before self, one of three core values that Airmen adhere to and live by daily, means that putting the needs of the Air Force mission before personal desires is inevitable for Airmen. With the holidays fast approaching, this can be a challenging time for many Airmen living in the dorms who are still becoming accustomed to being away from their families. Travis is reaching out to these Airmen with Operation Cookie Drop. Operation Cookie Drop is a program in which base residents and community members donate homemade cookies to be hand delivered during the holidays from the first sergeants of each squadron to the Airmen in the dorms. Lauren Morgan, wife of Senior Airman Jarryd Morgan, 22nd Airlift Squadron, has been an advocate for this program since her arrival at the base four years ago. Every year she unfailingly bakes 100 dozen cookies for the event. "It's important to show that we support our own Airmen," said Morgan. "I like to bake, and I want the Airmen to know that somebody is thinking about them." Morgan has already started preparing for the event and plans on baking a variety of cookies including chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin and cranberry white chip. To participate in wishing the Airmen at Travis a happy holiday season, drop off homemade cookies Dec. 14 from 7 a.m. to noon at First Street Chapel or David Grant USAF Medical Center at the north entrance.
