60th AMW to toast 50 years at Travis Published Jan. 15, 2016 By 2nd Lt. Geneva Croxton 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 60th Air Mobility Wing is getting ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary Jan. 19 at Travis Air Force Base, California. To kick off the event, a 5K heritage run will take place at 9 a.m. The run will feature multiple locations which are significant to the 60th AMW and Travis AFB. Free to all participants, the run is a great opportunity for unit physical training. There is no uniform requirement for the run. A heritage celebration takes place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Heritage Center, Bldg. 837. There will be multiple guest speakers, including Mayor Len Augustine, the mayor of Vacaville, Mayor Harry Price, the mayor of Fairfield and Col. Joel Jackson, 60th AMW commander. The speakers will highlight events which have contributed to the shaping of the wing and the surrounding community. The celebration also will involve the making of a time capsule, to be opened in 25 years on the 75th anniversary. The time capsule will include memorabilia that has made the 60th AMW what it is today. One-of-a-kind commemorative coins will be available at the celebration for $10.
