"This year in particular we are on the heels of coming back from boots on the ground and are sending more troops for more boots on the ground," said Michelle Hagge, Operation Homefront program coordinator. "It's a fantastic program to sustain military families and help them by providing enough food to make a meal for the holidays." The non-perishable items totaled more than 7,000 pounds and approximately $40 worth of items to each family including supplies to make a pancake breakfast and a dinner. "We are super excited to be able to appreciate military people," Hagge said. According to operationhomefront.net, in 2015, 8,500 families will receive Holiday Meal kits at 25 different active duty bases. The growth is due to the generous support of over 20 sponsors who provide funding, food items, venues, storage, shipping and valuable volunteer hours.
