The Secretary of the Air Force recently announced the 60th Air Mobility Wing as a recipient of the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for exceptionally meritorious service from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.

It marks the 22nd time since 1965 that the 60th AMW has been awarded the AFOUA.

To be selected for this prestigious award, a unit must have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service or outstanding achievement that clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units.

"The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award represents the hard work, excellence, and innovation the 60th Air Mobility Wing exhibits every day in supporting our combatant commanders around the world," said Col. Joel Jackson, 60th AMW commander. "I'm proud to serve with this total force team who's ready to answer our nation's call with rapid global mobility anywhere, anytime."

The 60th AMW is the largest air mobility organization in terms of personnel in the Air Force and is home to the C-5M Super Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster III, and KC-10 Extender aircraft. The unit, responsible for strategic airlift and air refueling missions, provides rapid global mobility and stands ready to respond at any time, any place.

From July 2014 to June 2015, 60th AMW Airmen flew more than 2,800 missions, moved more than 35,000 passengers, delivered more than 90 million pounds of cargo and offloaded more than 344 million pounds of fuel during in-flight refueling in support of contingency operations and humanitarian relief.

Members assigned to the wing during the specified dates are authorized to wear the AFOUA ribbon. Members can verify their records have been updated by going to the vMPF via the Air Force Portal.
