On October 9, 2015, Travis Air Force Base implemented changes to the flight patterns surrounding the base to enhance safety of flight and improve training flexibility.

"The changes added the use of a west pattern which opens up more airspace making our operations safer for aircrews and more manageable for air traffic controllers," said Lt. Col A.J. Prince, 60th Operations Support Squadron Operations Officer. "The changes comply with all Federal Aviation Administration and Air Force safety standards while helping to decrease pattern congestion and allow more aircraft in the tower pattern at the same time."

The new pattern will be used infrequently dependent on weather and air traffic. Residents in the northeast part of Suisun City, eastern Fairfield, and southeast Vacaville may notice an increase in aircraft noise at times during the pattern's use from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

"Opening the west pattern offers us extra flexibility and capability as we continue to train and carry out our strategic airlift and air refueling missions around the world," said Col. Joel Jackson, 60th Air Mobility Wing Commander. "We remain dedicated community partners and appreciate your support."
