Air Mobility Command officially named Travis Air Force Base its Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award winner Oct. 19.

"I'm proud of everyone who makes Travis the base it is today, and it's no surprise that others recognize the great work we do here," said Col. Joel Jackson, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander. "We're focused on excellence and innovation in taking care of our people and supporting our combatant commanders around the world, and the Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award honors these contributions."

The award, which recognizes outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations, is presented annually to one installation from each branch of service, along with a $1 million incentive award to invest in quality-of-life projects.

"It's clear our people have energetically enhanced mission capabilities and productivity through innovation and teamwork," said Gen. Carlton D. Everhart II, AMC commander. "Thank you for your commitment to excellence in all we do."

Serving as Air Mobility Command's CINC IEA nomination, Travis will go on to compete against nominees from each major command across the Air Force.

Selection for the Air Force-level winner is broken down into two phases. The first phase consists of a committee review, which eliminates all but two selected bases. The second phase is a visit to the two remaining bases by the Installation Excellence Selection Board.

This is the second time in three years Travis was selected as AMC's nominee for the award. The base won second place in the 2014 CINC IEA competition at the Air Force-level.

Travis patrons have already seen quality-of-life projects come to fruition as a direct result of the funds awarded to the installation due to its runner-up finish in 2014.

Most notably, a considerable amount of the funds received went toward the construction of "The Jungle", a 7,200 square-foot open-air functional fitness facility.
