The St. Michael's Catholic Community at Travis Air Force Base, California, held its annual picnic Sept. 15 at Twin Peaks Chapel.

Approximately 225 people joined in the festivities. Many military families who recently PCS'd to Travis received a warm welcome and were invited to make St. Michael's their spiritual new home. Old and new members of the community enjoyed the music of St. Michael's youth band and laughed as Col. Robert Cannon, 60th Air Mobility Wing chaplain, and Father Jeff Henry, 60th AMW chaplain, dressed up and sang as the "Blues Fathers" to the bass backup of Robert Garcia.

When asked about the importance of having a chapel community on base, Cannon replied, "In the military, families move from place to place. Base chapels are a place of refuge and encouragement. Chaplain Corps staffs are trained to support the unique needs of our military members and dependents. We help families remain spiritually strong and resilient like this family picnic on a beautiful Sunday afternoon."

As one young attendee said, "Can we do this every week? The hotdogs were great."
Catholic mass is offered every Sunday at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Twin Peaks Chapel, as well, as religious education for children of all ages and "Children's Church" during the 9 a.m. Mass.

Religious Education is between Sunday Masses from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m.
