Travis AFB Water Conservation Measures

As California enters its fourth year of drought with no potential relief in sight, Gov. Jerry Brown has issued an executive order to reduce potable urban water consumption by 25 percent from 2013 levels across the state through February 2016.  In doing our part to help our local communities and the environment, I am directing specific water conservation measures for Travis Air Force Base as outlined below.

Effective immediately:

All lawn watering, including base housing, is restricted to three days or less per week, not to exceed 10 minutes per cycle. Lawn watering is only approved between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m.

All facility managers shall perform facility inspections and identify possible water waste, i.e., leaking faucets or pipes, running toilets, wasteful water practices by facility occupants, etc.  Repairs can be requested by contacting 60th Civil Engineer Squadron customer service at 424-2575.

Family housing residents should identify any needed repairs to Balfour Beatty Community at 437-1230.

Hoses will only be used with an attached shutoff nozzle and every effort will be made to restrict the amount of water used.  Additionally, housing residents are prohibited from washing paved surfaces.

Family pools are strongly discouraged due to the rate of water loss from evaporation and their potential to aid in mosquito breeding.  Alternatively, the base pool will be free to residents from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and the splash park at the BBC community center will be active from noon to 4 p.m. daily.

During these drought conditions, BBC will not charge for brown or failing lawns and flower beds if residents follow the aforementioned watering restrictions.

Additional restrictions may be added once the state of California and the local community finalize their policies. For more information, contact the base energy manager, 2nd Lt. Justin Iungerich, at 424-0118 or via email at justin.iungerich.2@us.af.mil.
