The Travis Retiree Appreciation Day committee, in conjunction with the Retiree Activities Office and David Grant USAF Medical Center, is preparing to present the 19th annual Retiree Appreciation Day Nov. 15 at Travis Air Force Base.

This year's event, "Honoring Those Who Led the Way," will kick-off with a 5K run and 3K walk, followed by a continental breakfast. Mini-seminars, vendor booths, a health fair and lunch will round out the day's activities.

Attendees and their family members can pre-register for the 5K run and/or 3K walk at https://www.raceentry.com/race-reviews/travis-afb-retiree-appreciation-day-5k3k. Registration for the Retiree Appreciation Day event begins at DGMC starting at 7:30 a.m. along with a continental breakfast; opening ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. with closing ceremonies ending at 2 p.m.

Keynote speaker for this year's event is retired Air Force Lt. Col. Shane Ostrom, Military Officers Association of America deputy director of MOAA's Transition Center, who will present a federal legislative update on military benefits.

Ostrom retired from the Air Force in 2000 after serving in a variety of personnel, education and training and executive officer assignments, including tours in North Dakota, Florida, Korea, Australia and the Pentagon. His final assignment was on the Joint Staff, writing and championing legislation related to joint officer personnel management issues. He earned numerous decorations and awards over his Air Force career.

After retirement, Ostrom was a practicing investment advisor at a large investment firm and bank. He specialized in working with clients developing, implementing and managing investment plans and portfolios.

A native of San Antonio, he earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts and is a graduate of the Royal Australian Air Command and Staff College and the U.S. Air Command and Staff College.

Ostrom joined the MOAA staff in 2006 as the deputy director of the Benefits Information and Financial Education Department. His responsibilities include researching and writing articles and answering member inquiries regarding military benefits, health care, survivor issues and financial concerns. He also travels extensively to discuss these matters with service members and retirees and their families.
