Travis hosts Employment and Education Fair Published Sept. 25, 2014 By Senior Airman Madelyn Brown 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Travis Air Force Base held an Employment and Education Fair, open to all Department of Defense card holders, Sept. 23 at the Delta Breeze Club. The on-site access to career and education opportunities from more than 60 companies and colleges drew a crowd of more than 200 Travis personnel. "This event is occurring during the force reduction and it is exclusively designed to support those who are transitioning into their next phase albeit career or college," said Betty Hart, Airman & Family Readiness Center employment assistance program manager. Golden Bears were exposed to classes, workshops and resources available to them in order to make the best decision after separation or retirement from the service. In addition, attendees gained face-to-face interaction with career and college counselors for more information regarding nation-wide retraining and career education programs, as well as veteran and spouse friendly employers. Hart, who spent 10 years in the Air Force as a paralegal, has firsthand experience with the challenges service members face when separating. "As a veteran and a spouse, I've lived through the unemployment and transition phases," Hart said. "It's personally and professionally important to me to take what I've learned and spread the knowledge to my fellow veterans and service members." For those separating or retiring and seeking guidance, the A&FRC offers an employment workshop every Tuesday, Hart said. An updated weekly job board is posted on www.travisafrc.com, with local opportunities, and the A&FRC has just launched its "Travis AFB Employment Networking Group" on Linked In for employers and job seekers to connect instantly. A new Social Media Job Search workshop is scheduled to be launched in the near future. The next Employment and Education Fair is scheduled for Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Delta Breeze Club.
