Travis officer named California CGO of the year Published Sept. 25, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Amber Carter 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- First Lt. Ryan Hill, 60th Civil Engineer Squadron, was recognized Aug. 16 as the California Air Force Association Company Grade Officer of the Year for 2014. Hill's exemplary leadership and performance was highlighted during 2013 and 2014 by managing many CE projects at Travis as well as during his tour to Afghanistan. One specific Travis project stood out among the rest. "One of the biggest highlights of my career was my work on rebuilding Runway 21L and the construction of the new landing zone," Hill said. "It was one of the largest paving projects in the Air Force over the last decade." Throughout the past year, Hill has received many awards that led to his nomination for the 2014 CAFA CGO of the Year award. He was the 60th Air Mobility Wing CGO of the Year and the Major General Eugene A. Lupia Award winner for Air Mobility Command. "The Lupia Award recognizes the top civil engineer CGO," he said. "That was really an honor to be recognized among my peers." Hill was not aware that he was nominated for the CAFA award and the recognition was a surprise to him. "It's an honor, but I think the most rewarding experience of the whole year has been getting to work with so many amazing people," he said. "As a civil engineer, you reach out across so many career fields to complete projects and serve our customers, so you really get to know the base well." He is currently attending Texas A&M pursuing his master's degree to teach pavement engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology. "It's where all of our new CE lieutenants get trained and I'm excited to be able to influence our new officers," Hill said. "My ultimate goal is to one day command a CE squadron."
