In a typical year, the Air Force Band of the Golden West travels thousands of miles from its home at Travis performing in towns all across the western United States.

However, the holiday season is the one time of year the band members get to stay a little closer to home. And this year, the band won't even need to leave the front gate for one of its performances.

The Band of the Golden West will perform a special free holiday concert for the Travis community at 3 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Base Theater. Anyone with base access including active duty, civilian employees, family, friends, children and retirees are all welcome to attend to share in the holiday spirit. No tickets required.

The concert will feature the 50-piece Concert Band, The Commanders Jazz Ensemble, vocalists Master Sgt. Paula Goetz and Airman 1st Class George Brahler, as well as some outstanding instrumental soloists.

There will be plenty of holiday favorites such as "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and "I'll Be Home For Christmas" as well as Hanukkah music, a sing-a-long and perhaps even a surprise visit by a certain bearded gentleman in red.

"This is a great opportunity for us to spread some holiday cheer to our fellow Airmen and members of the base community and hopefully brighten everyone's spirits," said Capt. Jason Plosch, Band of the Golden West commander. "It's very special for us because it's rare we get to do a full concert right here on base. We're absolutely looking forward to it."

Col. Corey Martin, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander, will welcome the audience and provide some holiday greetings. The concert will be followed by First Friday events at the Delta Breeze Club. Base Theater doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and seating will be general admission. The concert will last approximately one hour.

In addition to the Base Theater concert, the Band of the Golden West will also be performing Dec. 5 at Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, Dec. 7 at Vacaville Performing Arts Theater, Dec. 9 at Hutchins St. Square Theater in Lodi, Dec. 10 at Pittsburg High School Auditorium and Dec. 11 at Lincoln Theater in Yountville.
