Senior Airman Alyssa Overbay, 60th Force Support Squadron food service shift leader, began her journey into the military as part of the Air Force Reserves at March Air Force Base, California.

"I originally joined the military as a reservist to help with school and get a feel for the military," she said. "I was a reservist for three years and then decided to go active duty."

Overbay, who also was a food services technician in the reserves, has been active duty for three years at Travis Air Force Base, California, and currently works at the Sierra Inn Dining Facility. The transition from reservist to active duty, each with different responsibilities, was smooth for her.

"I kept the same job I had as a reservist, but it is really different on the reserve side since the reserve base didn't have a dining facility," she said. "We served meals from the fast food places they had at March and here at Travis we actually have a full dining facility to prepare meals."

Now enjoying her time as an active duty Airman, her future goals include completing her Community College of the Air Force degree and making staff sergeant soon.

"My favorite parts of being in the Air Force are all the places that I have experienced and the people I have met along the way," she said. "I feel like I made the right decision because it has brought me to where I am today."

Overbay's leadership speak highly of her professionalism and hard work.

"Senior Airman Overbay brings a spark to this facility," said Master Sgt. Herman Brown, 60th Force Support Squadron food service section chief. "Her motor is constantly in overdrive and she is the first person to help a fellow teammate. She is the kind of Airman you can build around to have a championship team."
