Every year Air Force Services distributes $25,000 in scholarships for higher education.

The Air Force Services Club Membership Scholarship Program is a member-only program intended to assist club members and their family members defray the cost of higher education. Eligible individuals must provide a one page 500 words or less essay on a selected topic along with an entry form. Entry forms are now available on base at Mitchell Memorial Library, the Delta Breeze Club, Travis Fitness Center and Westwind Inn.

Twenty five winners are selected and each winner receives a $1,000 award. This year the essay theme is "what do the words to America the beautiful mean to me?"

Participating club members must submit their written essay on a CD, complete the entry form and provide current college or university acceptance letter for new students or official transcripts for those already enrolled. All items should be submitted to Mr. Brian Floyd, deputy director of 60th Force Support Squadron by July 2. Winners will be announced Sept. 17 via telephone and the winners will be posted online at www.TravisFSS.com.

It is not too late to become a club member and enter the contest. This scholarship program is an excellent example of the many perks and opportunities that club members receive. To enroll to become a club member or for a downloadable scholarship application, visit www.afclus.net.
