Laid to rest

The remains of 1st Lt. Alvin Crane Jr. were laid to rest at Santa Rosa Memorial Park Saturday nearly 55 years after being shot down during a reconnaissance mission outside Uijonbu, Korea. Lieutenant Crane’s remains were repatriated from Korea more than 15 years ago. His remains stayed at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, before being positively identified by DNA testing. Although his remains have been identified, the circumstances of his death remain a mystery. Other members of his squadron saw Lieutenant Crane parachute safely to the ground and run into the nearby woods. His remains showed no signs of foul play. (U.S. Air Force photo by Andre Mansour)
